Spiking Sun

One year my next door neighbor decided to plant sunflowers nether she nor I knew what we were in for. The amount of attention these plants get from insects and then birds was phenomenal. First they started with the leaves as you can see, then when the seeds start forming it seems every bug in the area is on these plants. If they make it to full maturity and a few do not, the seeds ripen with a rotting smell you would think drive everything away, it did me. No the attacks got worse and ended with the sunflowers on the ground mostly eaten. Now I do not know what others have experanced with these plants, so I do not know if this is typical and would welcome comments to what they have experienced. All I know is getting nice shots of these plants was hard.
